So me and my mom are going to make a nice vegetable mix with our ninja, what vegetables do you put in it ? We would like to give them a nice treat!

That sounds like fun!
I give my guys lots of veggies - whatever I happen to have on-hand.
Usually, it's a mix of:
- carrots
- celery
- apples (NO apple seeds!! They contain arsenic)
- grapes (seedless)
- broccoli (the tree part; they don't seem to like the stem)
- cucumber

I usually include some greens too. Kale is nice and fairly easy to find.

I make my veggie mix weekly. I'll put the mix into an ice cube tray and freeze it. Then, you just pop out a couple of veggie cubes. (It depends on what you put in your mix. Sometimes, there's lots of juice and everything freezes together to form a cube. Other times, I just spoon it out.)

My guys also like banana and pear, but these don't hold well.
But with a banana, you can leave the peel on and cut off a little slice each day (the open end oxidizes/dries up, so I cut that off and throw it out before I cut the slice.)

MiaCarter thanks!!!! that is something that i will deffinetely try. Sounds really good. though today we decided that we are going to do broccoli carrots and hard boiled eggs. Next time i will try your suggestions. Thanks.

Ah yes, they'll love the hard boiled eggs too.
I usually serve them separate because I only leave the eggs out for a couple hours before replacing with new ones.

You can crush the egg shells and mix them in too. That's a good boost of calcium.
The membrane can make it difficult to separate the little pieces of shell. So what I'll do is I'll pop them in the microwave for about 25 sec. This cooks any remaining traces of egg whites (in the case of scrambled) and it causes the membrane to separate from the shell and form a bubble that you can just peel off (and any remaining membrane is dried out, so you can crush them easily. I use the back of a spoon.)

Mine don't seem to want anything to do with vegi's... I need to try giving them some boiled eggs.

sgolds veggie are so good for them so I try to give It to them. Also hard boiled eggs are really good too. You should try it.

My guys get veggies and greens every second day. Eggs hard boiled and mashed, the shells get crushed and offered seperately.
To the person whose finches won't eat veggies, offer them a leaf of romaine lettice. I'd be very much surprised if they show no interest . Just wash it well and hang it up in their cage.

I was going to say, mine love romaine lettuce. That's their favorite and also winter squash, boiled and mashed up. I don't have a microwave so I do eggs two ways. I boil them and then after cooling them in water I take the back of a knife and hit the egg until I smash the shell into tiny pieces while still on the egg. Some pieces are still a little bigger, but I use a large fork and as I'm mashing the egg, I mash the shell also. It's not very hard because they're mostly small pieces now. We also save our eggshells and bake them in a 200 oven until dried well...and take the shell from the hard boiled egg and do the same thing. I have a coffee grinder that I only use for egg shells and make a mash from them.

the bird shop i bought my birds at gave me a couple of suggestions and he was right: slice the corn off of a cob (not cooked), cilantro, green pepper, things like that. all the birds LOVE the corn. love it, love it!

Nice! Beautiful finch delray. Is that a seed dispenser (dont know what they are called) at the rear of the photo to the right looks like a resevoir of seed that dispenses as the seed gets eaten? If im seeing correctly, where do you get those haha

Justino222 thanks !!!! They are great birds . And yes it is a seed holder and they fly over and eat the seeds dispensed and then the hills fall into a mini tray on the bottom . It was a gift so I have t get back to you on where we got it. I will let you know

Thanks delray! It looks great. And im goin on vacay in august. (Im rescuing 2 finches hopfully tomorrow) and my friends gonna look after them, and this would make it so much easier for her. Lol.
