I would really like to try to make the Egg Food Recipe that has been shared by FairestFinches, but I am not sure I can get the same ingredients here in Canada.

I have searched a few pet stores and looked online at Petsmart for Miracle Meal and Feather Fast, but couldn't find it.

Does anyone know if I can get this in Canada, or if perhaps there is a different name I should be looking for?

I don't mind ordering online, if you have a source I can check.

Miracle Meal and Feather Fast are Morning Bird products. You won't find those in a pet store chain.

Ok I got all my ingredients together and made up some Egg Food this morning. Of course they are not eating it. I guess it will take time to check out the "new stuff" in the cage.

How long is it safe to leave this in the cage before I should remove it?

I bought a little egg cup at the pet store. Is this a good way to serve the egg food. Or do you sprinkle it on the seed mix? How do you serve it?

Eggfood should only be left out for 2-3 hours. Did you remember to add the garlic powder? The aroma of the garlic normally gets their attention. Also, before you place you next order for any Morning Bird Products let us know what you need. We have a couple of Canadian customers already, and shipping is no problem for us. Many times even with shipping we can be very competative.

I like the little egg cups, as you can put just a small amount in them at a time. My wire mesh breeding cages will not work with them, so I have to use small dishes on the floor.

Sean, I will definitely contact you the next time I need to order supplies. I did use the garlic and noticed that they did pick at the egg food a little bit. Didn't really eat much, but tried it, so I will continue to offer it daily.

Sally, I found one of those little egg cups and used that. I like the portion size it holds. I hung it right beside the feed cup. I noticed the orange-cheek trying it, but the strawberry hasn't gotten close to it yet. Will keep trying.

Remove seed early morning for a couple of hours leaving egg food only...this usually works.But only for a couple of hours.

Sally, I had the same problem in my breeding cages with the wire mesh front. I solved the problem by building my own eggfood holders. Now I don’t have to open my cages to feed my birds and it holds just enough for 2 birds. If they have babies to feed I just put in 2 side by side.

They are 2" long made from normal plastic pipe. Here's how it looks

Sorry, but I must be dense! I'm looking and looking at this picture, and I can't see how this is made of pipe, or how it holds eggfood! Is it one of those puzzles where I have to squint to see it?

I just built a flight for a pair of gold breasted waxbills and it's made of 3/8 inch mesh. I had to cut down all my feeders (which look like those pictured) to fit through the mesh. (Cut them so they weren't too deep, but still had to cut one vertical wire for each feeder to fit in width wise.) Was very worried about these tiny little birds escaping when changing feeders.

I don't like having to open the cage to hang small eggfood feeders inside, so would like to try a "finger feeder" if I could do it without having to cut yet more wire. Can you explain to me how you made them out of pipe, since I can't seem to figure it out from the picture.

Franny, I also had to cut a cross wire to fit my own version of the finger cup in, the opening is way too small for even a goldbreast to fit through as the wire is still 3/8 in height. You can just make it out in the top pic. The eggfood cups you buy in stores are way too big to fit in wire mesh cages, that's why I designed my own as follows:

I used a normal plastic pipe which I cut in half using garden sheers as the pipe is quite tough. I then end up with two "half-pipes" which i then cut in 2" pieces, these pieces are then open at each end. I use an ordinary Ice cream lid and cut end caps which i stick to the 2" half pipe pieces. The one end I cut level and the other end leave a 1/4" piece sticking out so it doesn't get dragged into the cage by the birds. I then stick a piece of masking tape to the back of the cup so the birds don't push it through the outside of the cage, I use masking tape cause it's very cheap and a roll lasts me about 3-4 months. When completed it holds exactly 2 teaspoons eggfood which is perfect for 2 birds, when feeding young I add another one next to it. (note you have to click on the pic to view the full size to make anything out)
