Soluvite D3 Breeder ( In the UK )

Post by Max » Fri Jun 13, 2014 3:18 am

Hi Finchforum,

Im trying to source a supplier in the UK that sells the soluvite D3 breeder, but so far have only been able to find the soluvite d3, which i am told isn't sufficient enough for indoor birds. I wonder if any other UK based finchers know anywhere? or an alternative product.

Thanks!

Soluvite D ingredients:
Active Constituents: Vitamin A, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Riboflavin, Thiamine Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin (B12), Folic Acid, Choline Bitartrate, Biotin, Iodine.

Soluvite D Breeder ingredients:
Active Constituents: Vitamin A, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Riboflavin, Thiamine Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin (B12), Folic Acid, Choline Bitartrate, Biotin, Iodine.

Both say, "Recommended for: all birds on seed diets, particularly useful for birds housed indoors with limited or no access to natural sunlight."
Only difference I see is in the price

Hard boiled eggs has always worked for me as a sources of Vitamin D.

debbie276.....soluvite d isn't as good as soluvite d breeder

Breeder is superior......I have spoken to many breeders who have used both. ....all of them have switched over to breeder

Boiled eggs maybe ok if your birds eat enough of it

Problem is some birds just don't eat enough of it

My flock 140+......only eat one egg a day

So in my flock 1 boiled egg isn't enough to supply vitamin d

Also many people that pm on this site are telling me that their birds wont eat boiled eggs either

If you need d3.....just get soluvite d breeder....

There is no difference in the ingredients. Breeder is just more concentrated then Soluvite D

From the vetafarm website:

Soluvite D Breeder
Super concentrated vitamin supplement (10 times stronger than standard Soluvite D)
Directions: Add 5g to 5L of water and stir well OR Add 5g to 8kg of food and combine well.
Prepared water should not be exposed to direct sunlight; replace daily

Soluvite D
Directions:
Water - Add 4g to 400mL of clean water. (1 tsp per 1 pint)
Food - Sprinkle 1g (¼ tsp) of Soluvite D powder over 1 cup of soaked seed or greens
Prepared water should not be exposed to direct sunlight; replace daily

So if you can use all that you mix in one day without waste that would work just as well.

Note: you NEED to add a calcium source to their diet as there is no calcium added to soluvite unlike most other Vitamin D supplements.

Thank you both for your comments.

There must be a UK / European based alternative with similar make up.

I do have avian bulbs that i hope my birds can get some of the vitamin d3 they require. I fully appreciate that you are going to struggle to replicate the health benefits of the sun.

There is not as much products over here i've noticed compared to the states / auz.

This UK-based forum may be a good place to find out what supplies are available to you and where to find them:

Sally@debbie276...Do you ladies use Soluvite D??? I am wondering if I am under supplementing my birds. Besides their usual supplements (commercial egg food, Herb Salad, Avi Pollen, Avi Kelp, Hatched Eggshell, ABBA mineral grit), I sprinkle AviVita Gold on fresh soft foods (ex. egg food, quineoa & chopped veggies, birdie bread, etc) 3X a week. They also get fresh leafy greens (kale, spinach, romaine & dandelion) 3-4X a week.

I ordered a small bottle of the Soluvite D, not the Soluvite D Breeder (the breeder is very expensive, so I'm not prepared to spend that kind of money on an experiment). I thought I'd set up two pairs of birds, one on eggs and one on Soluvite D to see if there was a measurable difference. I'm always willing to try new things, but the problem with me is that I often change multiple things at once. When I see improvement, I don't know which change made the difference!

I have a friend who breeds lots of show-quality Zebras. Her birds are all indoors. I know she feeds egg, as she uses Roy Beckham's recipe for eggfood (which includes Vionate vitamins with D3). I need to ask her if she has avian specialty bulbs on her birds as well, she certainly has the awards and trophies to show that her birds are in excellent condition.

Ginene It sounds like you are offering an excellent diet for your birds already. If your birds are healthy and look good, I wouldn't think you would need anything more.

Ok Sally...thank you. My birds appear to be healthy and happy. I do worry about giving them too many vitamin supplements and would rather provide them with healthy, vitamin rich foods. :)

I don't use vitamin supplements, I'd rather offer a well rounded natural diet then powder from a bottle. :)

Sounds like your diet is working well for you so I wouldn't change a thing.

debbie276.....that powder in bottle saved 60 birds

Before the powder numerous avian vets destroyed numerous birds.....prescribed numerous medications.....that all failed

Once the powder in the bottle was given to my flock....all birds saved.....and now in 8 months not a single loss....

Nests of 8+ every chick perfect

I would say that powder.....soluvite d breeder is a miracle cure

I'm truly happy you were able to find something that works for you and has saved your birds.
I've been able to have healthy productive birds without all those supplements but what works for me may not work for you. :)

Best of luck
