Fish food

Post by Madcat » Thu Jun 26, 2014 5:13 pm

Hello all!
I went to the pet store and browsed the fish section. I usually buy the dried blood worms for my birds but this time I tried the mini/baby dried shrimp. They ate it!!! Have you guys ever used any other fish food for your birds? Dried kelp ?

My finches love the bloodworms! Now they have another food to go crazy over. Give the baby shrimp a try.

I know they can eat kelp. I just would make sure it comes from a good source. I lean towards paranoia with bad things coming out of China, pet food especially.

I wondered this also! I have some mixed goodies for fish. I'm going to try giving some to the birdies. :)

Regarding good brands of fish food like Freeze-dried Bloodworms, Krill, etc... Hikari is a great brand as well as Omega One who makes their food in the US and is quite good.

Colt awesome. Thanks! Corkysgirl yes. I understand. I know someone who's dog got terribly sick from a certain pet food. Scary.

I don't know if they'd eat it, or even if it would be good for them, but if you have PE Mysis shrimp available (it's frozen but could be thawed and probably mixed into egg food) has a ridiculously high amount of protein in it. If I remember correctly they are harvested from polar freshwater lakes and frozen in fresh water. I used to compare their protein contents to customers against San Francisco Bay and even Hikari, and the food just blew them out of the water. I imagine of yours eat freeze dried krill they might sample these as well. Shrimp are basically underwater bugs anyway right? lol
