It's hard to say how much kelp she should be eating. She may be trying to replace the iodine that she has used up laying the eggs and feeding young. Iodine is essential for Gouldians to breed successfully, and maintain proper health. We use the theory that the birds tend to know how much of something they need far better than we do and offer a variety of food items.

It's great that she is getting so much protein with mealworms. You may want to offer her some fresh egg food. Here's the link to our recipe.

i made egg food on saturday and i used the cheese grater to cut it up (thanks that was a cool idea) i put some flour, nestling food kelp powder, sage, and rosemary leaves in also. so far they are eating it. sinces they are in separate cages im sure she eating hers.

i notices they are not fond of sprouted seeds do you think the garlic powder will work on that ?

You could try the garlic powder on the fresh greens to see if that will get them to ea them, but right now the chicks need all of the protein thay can get to grow. The supplements in the egg food provides the rest of what the chicks need to develope so I would not fret about the greens right now.

The single biggest thing the chicks need to grow is protein. The rest is icing as they say.

If the parents felt something was missing from the diet and the greens could provide it they would be eating it and feeeding it to the young.
