I wasn't sure if my canaries would eat fresh eggfood, but i mixed some up with zupreem fruit pellets, and crushed cuttlebone and so far so good! Gave it to one of my males first as he seems to enjoy everything. Now the female flight will be testing it out!

I hate making it, though! LOL
So I do 8-12 eggs at a time and I put it into a few containers and freeze it. Lasts about 10 days. The day before I need a new frozen container, I'll pop it into the fridge and it thaws nicely.

My hens weren't such big fans as the three males were. The doves wouldn't even try it! I guess you just have better luck i make it as i need it. I used to make birdie bread, so much more fun and it lasts way longer! Once breeding season starts I'll make it again

Mix it in with something they love.

Many birds don't try new foods eagerly, so it can take a few days for them to actually try it.

Others may be thrown off if you're using a different plate/dish/etc. So make sure you put it in a receptacle that they're certain to view as a food dish. I made that error once.

Can someone please share a recipe for egg food? Also, is it given anytime or only when breeding?

I simply hard boil regular eggs for about ten to twelve minutes. I peal my eggs and use a grater to get the right texture and serve as is. I dry the shells and crumble them, and my guys eat those like potato chips.

You can also mux the hard boiled eggs with store bought egg food, or with grated carrots, crumbled spray millet, minced carrot greens, or anything else that your guys really enjoy. Eggs are very healthy for their protein and vitamine content.

I pretty much goes with what feels/looks right so this won't be exact.

I boil at least a dozen eggs, usually more. I peel them, slice them into quarters and run them through a garlic press to make them look like yummy little egg worms. Let's say I actually had 5 cups of boiled egg. I'd add about 2.5 cups of Quiko's Classic eggfood and 2.5 cups of Quiko's Goldy eggfood. Basically both commercial eggfoods together equal about as much boiled egg as I have. I had a tablespoon-ish of kaytee Exact Handfeeding formula per egg. And then usually a 1-2 cups of XS Zupreem Fruit Blend Pellets and 1-2 cups of Roudybush Nibbles. Then I add dried greens or fresh depending on what I have, and additional vitamins or supplements I want and I'f I'm trying to get new birds to try the egg food some of their seed (which I might jut sprinkle on top of their bowls). Sometimes I add a few hundred mealworms into the mixture so they can munch on all the goodies and be gut-loaded when the birds eat them.

I run the eggshells through a food processor and save them to mix into my mineral mixes I offer the birds separate from the eggfood. I've heard of hatchlings dying because their parents ingested and regurgitated eggshell into the babies crops.

It sounds complicated but it isn't. I was terrified of making eggfood forever. After a few batches you get into a routine of what it should look like. And don't be disappointed if they turn their little noses up at it for a few days before they try it. It took mine forever to figure out I wasn't putting it in there to kill them.

I hard boil my eggs 20 min. let cool then crush 1 egg and chop fine then add 1 or 2 tbsps. of miracle meal and maybe a bit if seed they like and put some in each dish and stand back.....

Sometimes I add fine chopped broccoli to the egg WAHOO!

I take 1 egg, break it and put in in a cup. I add 30 to 50 percent milk and mix it. I pour a bit (1 cm thick) in a cup. The rest I put in the refrigerator for use over the next 2 days. I microwave the bit of egg for 1 minute at 50% strength. I then use a fork to squish it into small pieces and mix it with 1 heaped teaspoon store bought eggfood. The milk in the mix prevents the microwave from turning it into tough rubber. It is best if the egg mix still has some moisture in it to wet the store bought eggfood. This only take only 2 minutes to prepare.
