So I'm interested in possibly buying bulk seed since the pet store seed is SO EXPENSIVE (I currently pay 12.99 for 3 pounds) But since I only have 2 birds, I'm concerned the seed may go "bad" before I use it. Should I freeze it? Will it go bad? How much would you buy at a time?

I'm also wondering if I should freeze my Quiko egg food until I need some?

I freeze ALL my bird seed; including spray millet & egg food

I never freeze bird seed and i know no one that does so, although I do freeze all my egg food along with the veggies. I would just like to say that my egg food is a home made recipe with boiled eggs and various additives.

I keep all my seed in the fridge, and freezer if I know it will take a while to use it all. This is only because we have a spare freezer in the birdroom as it was originally our upstairs kitchen. It's not vital but does preserve freshness and kill insects.

Seed will keep for a fair amount of time, it must just remain dry. It is better to keep it in a cool constant temperature (mostly not too much fluctuation of hot and cold), say like a basement or cellar.
Usually seed is kept in a cloth bag so it can breathe.

It must just never get wet, via damp or sweating as once mouldy you can only throw it out.

I don't think it is necessary to freeze seeds. If you do they may never germinate if you want to sprout them.
