I wanted to see what peoples opinions were on this topic...
I am currently breeding gouldians. Well I follow a routine schedule that keeps them on a regular yearly cycle... Breeding now/molting/resting/austerity/breeding etc....
OK so it makes more since to me in my opinion to breed during summer! This being said is because there are so many wild grass seeds tossling that I can harvest and dry out for future use, or feed green heads right then ??? Am I right ? Also for my waxbills, as aggravating as it may be- I can get into ant hills in the yard and get the larvae/eggs, also find termite to feed...
Has anyone collected grass seeds and dried/frozen them for future use? How long would they stay good you think? What about if I went out now-dead winter and got the grass seeds that "might" still be there? Would those be ok you think to feed???? Also with my parrot finches needing more grass seeds in their diet, this would be great if I can get a set up!!!
Thanks in advance..

Re: Wild grass seeds- green seeds- TIPS/TRICKS/IDEAS ???
I have plant various finches seeds, grass seed, millet and panicko mainly and when they are ready (they dry and get yellow on their own) I cut them and hung them to dry upside down (with the seeds facing down).
Usually I don't have enough to last past autumn time but I suppose you can keep them just like bought seeds, in non-transparent containers, in a cool place with low humidity. The store-bought stay good for about 6 months.
I haven't heard about frozen seeds so I have no idea on that matter.
