Glad that it's been hard to find mealworms otherwise I wouldn't have tried to offer waxworms.! First time that my Gouldians have taken to live food.
From the refridgerator, they are motionless....after they warm up, they move around non-stop. They are very soft, and as I can imagine, easier to eat.

Another option would be to try white worms. Don't know if your Gouldians would like them, they are very tiny, but the waxbills seem to really like them, and it is easy to maintain a culture of them.

White worms. Good to know. The waxworms ARE rather large.

You can normally get the wax worms from Grubco but I looked on ther site and they are out of stock at this time I guess because of mealworm shortage but I don't know for sure. have you called them any more for mealworms?

Yes and they said it would be a few weeks before having any. They are apparently running short of everything! Waxworm, fly larva, mealsworms, etc.... I guess it is the ripple effect.

White worm cultures are available from Connie Gahman at
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3ft62/wings/. It may be too hot to ship them now, though, as they like cool weather.
