vitamin supplements

Post by kyle » Thu Apr 09, 2015 12:33 am

Hello all, im wondering if my finches need vitamin supplements. They get a verity of vegetables, boild egg with the egg shell ground up, sprouted finch seed and finch seed mix. I have tried two different multi vitamins for finches (one is powder and one is liquid) whatever I put the vitamins in they don't touch. They have full spectrum lighting but I doubt it will provide all the vitamin D they need. They haven't started their molt yet but want to make sure they have everything they need.
I tried putting it in the water and the birds drink very little, besides they have a bird Bath available so they will drink from that. but quite frankly i wouldn't want to drink it. What product is readily eaten by finches that doesn't have flavoring?

As long as you are feeding a well balanced diet I personally see no need for a vitamin supplement. Your diet sounds spot on.

Here's a very good reference nutrients and their sources when in doubt

Our vet recommends if not providing a balanced pelleted diet with seed and veggies that you supplement with a powdered vitamin added to the soft foods. not all birds will adapt to adding pellets to their diet. I use AviTech's AviVita Gold.... it is very complete and contains calcium and D3
