First finches

Post by laraarmst » Sun Jul 20, 2008 12:27 pm

My gold brested waxbills have been here for 1 week. So far I have only given them Nutriphase Gold and Kaytee Select Blends for Canarys & Finches. I also have given them some minced carrot. They liked that alot. What are some other must do foods for basic nutrition. They have a cuttle bone also. So far they are very healthy. I'm not crazy about bugs. Are there any alternatives?

I said the same thing about bugs...... worms yuk!
But when you see how much the love them, you will do it. That is if you can find them. Mine LOVE mini meal worms. Also you can give them some greens ... spinach....romaine lettuce etc. Mine like cooked rice, sprouted seeds and egg food.
I am sure there will be more suggestions. I spend more time getting food ready for my birds than for myself sometimes.

Well yes.... they get all that too. Their favorite is when I put a piece of fresh raw sweet corn on the cob. They devour it. But it sure does make a splatting mess.
