Not sure what your looking for but ... egg

No entirely sure what the question is. However if you want to know which is better for your birdlings, I would agree eith Debbie, and say 'eggs'.

I hardboil the eggs, peel them (saving thee shells for later use).
Run the eggs through a large garlic press
Crumble spray millet into it
Toss with fork and serve

My birds all love it.
During moulting, breeding, or baby feeding, I also add pulverized freeze dried mealworms, and some pulverized store bought eggfood (which contains some orange blossoms and makes everything smell nice.

Regarding the eggshells. Dry them, crumble into small bits, then offer as calcium rich birdie potato chips. Birds love them.

I do egg food, but it is my own homemade egg food. I do use the dry commercial stuff to add to my egg food to help dry it out (along with other ingredients). I think both plain hard-boiled egg and egg food have their merits, but if you are asking whether real egg or commercial dry egg food is better, than I would have to go with the real egg! You can make up your own mixture cheaper, as well.

Sorry, I guess my question was a bit vague. I've seen a lot of mention of egg food and I wondered if it was better than booking eggs. And if so, why and in what circumstances.

Looks like there's agreement that eggs are fine, which is a relief. I think all the reading has me over-complicating finch parenthood.

I also make my own , I do the following.

Boiled eggs peeled and ran through smallest holes on my cheese grater,crush the eggshells and add it, add millet, some dried green tidbits, and a few drops of vitamin supplements. I then toss with fork, and lastly use a knife to make it a tad smaller as my one female is picky. I then put on the lid(Tupperware) and give it a good shake.

When feeding hard boiled egg be sure to serve it spread out thinly on a dish so that it will dry out over time and not go off. I feed in the morning and leave it all day, try to feed only as much as they will eat in an hour or two.
I peel the eggs smash them with fork or run them through a garlic press so they look like little worms. I add handfeeding formula for all the nutrients in there, after all the formula had everything they need. I leave the shell in the biggest pieces I can and they play with and break off pieces all day long.

Depending on what's going on, differs what I add, (like for instance right now my poor gouldy's are moulting to hell... poor things) so I'm adding powdered kelp to their eggs, and feather fast. But i usually hard boil, smash them to smithereens, with like one of the shells (so if i'm smashing 4 eggs, I put one of the eggshells in the mix. Then the eggs I'm going to serve, (in a smaller dish) i add dried greens, Quicko egg food to dry it up some (this is an ALWAYS) and for the honey & other stuff they add to their mix that my eggs dont' have. And I add bee pollen sometimes, AviKelp, trace minerals, millet, Miracle Meal, finely chopped pieces of brocoli or romaine, Zupreem pellets, as pellets or powder, powdered kelp, feather ific, or feather fast.....obviously not all of these things all the time. But again, depending on what my birds need, or what I think they need, I've even put sprouted seed in with the eggs before. But, i always give them Real Eggs, but I do no matter what else I add, i Always add the powdered Quiko egg food, as I said before because they add some vitamins, and some ingredients that I don't have that is good for the birds. My Zebs loved it when they were breeding/weaning. And my gouldy's love it and they are currently moulting. So i must be doing something right, although I do ALWAYS give too much... I have to be better at portions with them.... lol But good luck, hope this helped!
