I went to my parents house this weekend and picked alot of figs from their huge tree. Has anyone ever fed their birds figs? I couldn't find it listed as a dangerous food and since the wild birds love them I thought they might be safe, but wondered if anyone else had ever fed them. Didn't want to take a chance and am dying to try them on the birds......

Although I hate to give them up for the birds since I love to eat them myself.

I fed some to a pair of senegal parrots, and a nandy conure only one of them seemed to like them, but my fig tree only had two ripe ones . Most of the time it takes several times trying before they try anything new.I think I read they were safe but while I write this I cant remember for sure . The bird that ate it is fine[as mean as ever] Hope someone else knows for sure!

Thanks! I couldn't find anything on it, so I went ahead last night and gave them one. The birds in the wild sure do love them.

A few of the picked at them, but didn't seem so excited. It is impossible for me to find any fruit they will eat.

My larger birds senagal&nandy all eat apples,and pomagranits but thats about it as far as fruit,my finches won't eat apples or any fruit

When I had Lovebirds I fed them some figs on occasion. They loved them! I made sure they were the unsulfured kind. But I imagine the fresh off the tree ones would be wonderful for humans and birds alike.

I haven't been able to get my finches interested in many fruits, but they love peas more than anything else I've given them.

They are soooo good. I stood under the tree and ate them for about 15 minutes.

Nothing wrong with feeding finches figs. It is widely assumed that the success that comes from feeding lebanese cucumber is because its nutritional values are very close to figs!

Finches tend to be a little more picky about what they eat. They throughly examine it before it goes into their little beaks.

I have some finches that'll eat everything (but then again, those finches I've had for years and they almost expect it), then I have newer finches like my black bellied firefinch who will not eat anything but seed!

Was just looking at A safe plant list and not safe list much to my suprise figs are listed as not good for birds, maybe they meant plants I don't know check out this link http://www.finchniche.com/f-aviaryplants.mgi

I think they meant plants in the fig family, said if too much of those plants is eaten, the birds could become ill. We had a huge fig tree in our yard in Houston, and it was always a race to try to get the figs before the wild birds ate them. (Boy, do I miss that tree, love figs!)
