Just wondering about feeding cooked rice and cooked pasta to finches.
Does anybody give these to their finches?

We have tried it, but our finches weren't as interested in eating it as our Goffin Cockatoo.

I feed cooked rice to my finches ,mostly zebras, societys, cocatiel at times I offer it to others but for most part they only peck at it .
I make a sweet potato mash with cooked rice that a pair of senegal parrots, nandy conure eat almost every day. I do think brown rice is better for them, but none of mine will eat the brown rice..
Pasta the big birds I have eat a little but not the finches[don't think it would hurt them].

Try Quinoa if you have never used it with your birds....my birds like that.

Thanks guys.

I wasn't entirely sure about rice or pasta. I don't like to give them anything without checking here first. Our zebras seem to really enjoy it.
TammyS, I never heard of Quinoa. I'm going to check it out.

The co-op downtown here sells it in bulk, but I've found it at most other grocery stores as well. If there's a 'gluten free' section in the store anywhere, there will probably be either small boxes or bags of it. The boxes usually advertise themselves as being for breakfast serial (like oatmeal). If there is no such section in your store, then hopefully it'll be in with the other grains. I think it's delicious, but haven't tried giving any to my finches, yet.

You should be able to find at a most grocery stores. A friend of mine who raises some of the more exotic birds gave me an information sheet on all the health benefits of Quinoa and he uses it for his birds. I mix it in with my eggfood.
If I can find the information sheet, I will post more info on it. Otherwise - do a google search and you will find lots of information on Quinoa.

I give them a mixture that I buy from a local aviary and it includes rice in it.

I feed my star finches cooked white rice by mixing some of it into their seed mix a few times a week. They seem to really enjoy it because it is the first thing in the food dish they go for.
Brown rice seems like it might be better for them--although i don't really know for sure. I know its better for humans because it dosn't contain the processed, simple carbohydrates of white rice. to be on the safe side this is why i only give them cooked rice every so often.
however, if you are worried about possible adverse health effects i have observed none whatsoever in my finches.
