My Kids Love Pears...

Hello Fellow Finchers....

Have any of you offered pears to your birdlings?

I bought a large bag of pears a couple of days ago. As I was sitting at the table, partaking (pigging out) of this luscious juicy perfect fruit, my birdies were watching me with hungry eyes.

I thought, why not give them a few small slices. They absolutely loved it.
I can't recall if I've offered pears before, but I will from now on.

Has anybody else had any experience with finches and pears?

I haven't tried pears, but I certainly will now.

I just checked the FIC for the list of safe and unsafe foods, and pears are listed as one to feed in moderation. I don't see that as a problem anyway, since most of us feed a varied diet, not relying on any one food. Out of season, pears would be a tad expensive to feed to very many birds, too.

I've tried pears once, but my birds don't seem too interested in fruits. I can't seem to find one they really like.

In the fruit department, my guys enjoy, oranges, mandarins, apples, halved red grapes, banana, watermelon, cantaloupe, occasionally blueberries, honeydew, strawberry (not so much) and now pears.

It's all about the monkey see, monkey do mentality. If the see another species enjoying something, they will try it too. I have Canaries, Gouldians, Socies, and Zebras, who will ear live mealworms, because they'd seen Parrot Finches, and Waxbills doing it. It's quite amazing really.
