Worms.... what are they?

Got live worms from the pet shop. Put 4 wiggling creatures on my Gouldian's regular food plate...... They were curious, looked at them from a distance but did not even get close. So with a great difficulty I cut those poor buggers into pieces and put them with the food. My birds didn't touch them.
Any advice :?:
Thanks

Personally, I don't think you need to feed live food with Gouldians, unless you just want to. When you keep African waxbills, then live food is a must. Gouldians are happy with a good finch seed mix, veggies, and egg food.

If someone cut up worms and put them in MY food, I would not eat it either.

 Well, I put 2 live ones in their dish, along with their regular sprouted seeds and veggies.... next day the worms were still there happily munching on the veggies.

HA ha. Yes Gouldian are not fond of worms, unless a waxbill or parrot finch teach them how nice they are.... mine became little worm pigs once they got a taste for them.

I have no idea where to find those worms here in my parts ,I can get those short fishing worms or maggots (I believe they are called blow fly worms) I am not sure if I can give them those worms as I heard that they can actually eat their way out of the finches crop , so I don't want to take any chances , oh and also that they are filled with parasites.
Does anyone know how one would find one of those worms in nature , or at least the egg carrying beetles?(not the fishing worm , the meal worm)
