Preserving grasses

Hello,
I have some bird seed that I grew in a large pot for my Gouldians. Since our lawn is fertilized and sprayed for weeds I can't use that.
I live in Canada where our winters are pretty harsh. I can always bring the pot of growing grass inside, but I'm wondering if there is a way to grow a bunch this summer and preserve it over the winter??
Can I dry it out while still having nutritional value and being safe to eat?
Kinda a silly question :)
Thanks

I'm in Canada as well, so I know about the winters.

What I do, is collect the seeds in the Fall when they're dry, and keep them in a cookie tin, mixing some into their regular seeds over the Winter. They last until the following Spring, if you collect enough.

All of my birds love them.
