Just wanted to share my eggfood recipe for those ones that are interested on making their own.
I honestly havent calculated the cost of this BUT i make it because its all natural and has really good stuff for the birds and NOT to spare any money on commercial eggfoods.
I have only bred european finches, canaries and javas, so im not sure if other finches will eat this.
My birds love it and even those new to me, start eating it in a few days.
I do small batches at a time and keep them 4-5days in the fridge and then i freeze them till its all done.
This eggfood is very potent and is best used in breeding and moulting seasons.
For resting period you cut in half the amount of eggs and multivitamis and dont use the hand feeding formula.
This eggfood can be used as a hand feeding formula
INGREDIENTS LIST
1) 4 hard boild eggs (use 3 egg yolks and only 1whole egg for breeding or moulting season)
2) 1Litre of partially skimmed milk link
3) 250gram of Plain Bread Crumbs link
4) 10grams of multivitamine
5) 1tsp of honey
6) 1/4tsp of Atlantic Kelp link for Kelp
7) 1/4tsp of Electrolyte Powder

9) 1/4tsp of Spirulina Link
10) 1/4tsp of trace minerals link
PREPARATION
get a decent container to mix everything.
Hard boil the eggs and use 3 egg yolks and i whole egg (with shell)
Bring the milk to a boil and once it starts raising up throw a tsp of cedar vinegar in it to cut of the boiling. The milk at this point will turn into a ricotta like. drain the water with a cheese cloth and keep the "ricotta"
Add everything you have now on a Food Processor or mix by hand if you with
I use a food processor for this (cheap electronic one)
process everything and keep an eye on the consistency (you want it to be kind of dry so it doesnt stick together)
Add bread crumbles to the desired consistency.
I usually ad some niger seeds to it, just to attract the new birds to it.
As any other eggfood throw the leftovers the next day.
Well i hope your birds love it too.
