Anybody have success with dried flowers and herbs? Such as dried lavender?
Cheap small amounts to try on eBay.
They love the tall wild grass seeds. Still green, but the seeds are soft and succulent.
The long hairs covering each seeds does not bother them at all.
They like them so much, they try to steal from each other.
I stay away from most plants because I don't trust myself.

I put sprigs of fresh lavender on the floor of my flight cage. I also put down mint, rosemary, oregano, thyme, whatever I have a lot of in the garden at the time. I mix the herbs in with the bedding, not to feed them but mostly because they make the cage smell wonderful. If you're going to give them dried herbs, dry them yourself, that way you will be sure there are no chemicals in there.

Good to know. i have a 2 acre field of lavender and have always wondered about putting it in my flights. i have put it in my pigeon loft for nesting material. It is a natural insect deterrent and it smells great. I'm sure if the pigeons like it, my cage birds will also.
thanks!

javajerry Wow! Two acres of lavender! Jason Crean has a facebook group devoted to Avian Raw Nutrition. He adds many flowers to the chop he makes for his parrots, and he also brews tea for his birds, and lavender tea is one that he uses. I would assume from this that lavender would be OK, but you have to make sure it is organic, so no poisonous chemicals used on it.
