HOW to your finches to eat live food and how to get live foo

Personally I do not use live food... I work with mostly Australian species, grasskeets and Java... all do well on the pellets and dried egg food sprouts and now the Naturally.

When I mention live food to my avian vet, she said "no, you open the birds up to parasites and bacteria, fungal" and not all species require live food to rear young.

Keep in mind societies, zebras and other species require less protein than those from Africa/insect eating/those that require more protein to rear young. Adding too much protein to the diet daily is really rough on the kidneys. If the birds accept egg food why "fix something that is not broken".

I do not use egg food daily unless the birds are molting or feeding young... they may get it once a week mixed in with a chitted seed.

Just know your source for live food if you do bring it in and keep their substrate clean... they poo in the substrate, damp food can grow mold and fungal.... clean maintenance helps a lot

I completely agree with what yer saying here Cindy as regards to the Australian, Java's and Keet's etc but the only problem is if yer ever did keep and breed waxbills you would ideally wanna have to use live food to rear the young, yes I know that a few waxbills have actually reared on egg food etc but to be successful you'd very much need to go down the live food route,

If an avian vet said to me that waxbills don't need the live food sorce to successfully rear their young I'd be very interested to see their overall breeding strategy and more importantly their results because I honestly think it wouldn't lead to very much
