Fruit and veggie powders
What are your thoughts on fruit powders. I purchased several bags of unsweetened fruit powders. All natural, no colors added, nothing artificial added. Such as papaya, banana, mango, guava etc. I know fresh fruit and veggies are best. Just curious if anybody has success with powders. On its own or added to egg.... Also bought a bag of broccoli sprout powder (not quite powder), ground chia seeds, ground sesame seeds. I enjoy playing around with healthy foods. My canaries have more fun pecking at food like chicken rather than eating from a food bowl. Thought of scattering the fruit and veggie flowers. That's if they like the taste. If not the powders make great shakes. Powders sound unappealing, but the nutritional info of each sure would be of benefit. Especially when preparing them for breeding in the spring. Otherwise I do offer fresh kale, rutabaga, broccoli, radishes, dandelions. I would prefer to offer powders on its own rather than adding it into food. Let the bird decide if it needs or wants it. I'm not going to force a bird to eat a concoction it doesn't need or want. If it's a hit great, if not I won't buy it again. I must admit it's fun to experiment to a certain degree. I don't offer bird vitamins, but serving real fruit powders is I think ok. Time will tell of any benefits. Please no bashing. Fresh undoubtedly is the way to go. I grow veggies for my birds. But during winter I would think these powders can if not promote health, at least be appealing and tasty to eat. I like happy birds.

Hi Christian,
I have never heard of fruit powders before. How are they made?
Regarding offering them to the birds, I'm not sure if they would not be too concentrated in their dry form.
Your Canaries eat chicken? How did this come about?

I think he means pecking for food, like chickens do, on the ground. Not eating chicken.

Oops, I think you're right, lol.... my mistake .
I had visions of a bunch of Canaries circling a bucket of KFC with a canibalistic gleam in their beady eyes.
