Container vs foraging

Post by Christian » Fri Jan 12, 2018 8:53 pm

I noticed that my canaries enjoy eating more when the food is scattered rather than in containers. Seems like they have more fun this way. I've tucked seeds into bark. They forage and seem excited and climb all over to get their goodies.

This is an interesting topic. I've noticed this as well, although I can't bring myself to just scatter seed and other foods on the floor.

I hope others chime in on this.

I would love to do this but it would be too hard cleaning up the left overs when some of them meal worms fall out the container and they are in the fake grass they love rummaging through but it’s hard to clean the leftovers

You’re birds are lucky that u are willing to clean good on ya

My whole aviary floor is seed!! ( well there's a tiny bit of sand, but barely any ) and yes the birds love foraging and I have Chinese quail who eat some of the seed on the ground too.
