Post by Flight Feathers » Thu Mar 15, 2018 6:54 pm

Roughly how many kg of seed does 14 zebra finches, 2 canaries and 2 cockatiels go through a month?
Thanks!

Not sure but if you invest a little money in a seed cleaner machine then you will save tons of food and in the long run quite a bit of money.

Flight Feathers

It depends on whether your birds fling seed out, or eat it all. My seven societies and two gouldians go through maybe a kilo a month, while my Javas sometimes fling the seed out, bringing the total a bit higher.

If your birds eat all of their seed, I'd say 4kg/month would be a good estimate.

I use a seed filter thing where it is perpex attaches to wood so the seeds only come out abit at a time and the more the birds eat the more come out it’s like a large bird feeder that doesn’t spill seeds this way they don’t sit in it or flick it around like my stupid zebras do if they xan
FINCHES I HAVE
Bengalese
zebras
Java sparrows
Silver bills
java x beng hybrid

PETS IVE HAD
dogs
Fish
Cocktiel
Doves
Hybrid cherry x Bengalese
Stars
Heck’s
Canary’s

My favourite is COCO my grey pearl society cock been here since the start my flock leader

Wow! ALL of my birds (which was including 5 budgies and 2 Turks as well) were only eating 5kg all up for a month! So my birds aren’t eating enough?? Or are they just eating half their diet off the aviairy floor??

Flight Feathers

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your second to last post... Four kilograms per month was my estimate for what your would eat, so 5 kilograms per month sounds fine.

Be careful that the seed on the floor doesn't become contaminated or start to rot.

5 kg a month was for 5 budgies and 2 Turks as well as 14 finches 2 cockatiels 2 canaries and 5 Chinese quail. But then maybe I will start to go through more than 5 kg.

Yes I clean out anything that gets gross. It’s just when it gets wet that it goes gross so I tend not to put seed in those parts of the aviairy.
