I am sorry if there’s the same topic already, I tried looking for it but couldn’t find it.
Could someone please address me somewhere or tell me what would be the best diet for canaries? I can see what seeds to feed but doesn’t say anything about percentages or amounts. Also what fruit and vegs can be fed daily... if there’s a complete guide around please let me know!
Thank you so much!

I've used this diet for quite a few years, and get 3-5 chicks per nest.
Seed--Canary and rape (canola), sometimes Japanese Millet.
Sunflower chips
Mineral mix (Abba Seed has a good one. This is not 'grit', like for
pigeons or chickens. This is oyster shell + other minerals.
Mashed up boiled egg, with a tablespoon of Abba Green #92 nestling
mix per egg. The #92 is to help dry out the egg, plus added
vitamins. I've used corn meal before, or pressed oats.
Greens like kale, broccoli, or collards--something dark green and dense.

That's it. They get all they'll eat, every day. From what I offer, they regulate their own diet. Consumption changes with the seasons. If it is cold, they eat more rape and sunflower. If there are chicks, they gobble down the egg food.

It should be noted that my birds are in a walk-in aviary. If they are caged, the cage is 48" long. I think a larger enclosure means more exercise. Lots of problems disappear when there is enough space for a bird to fly.

Mine eat the same for the most part except sometimes I exchange seeds for Roudybush pellets. I also provide hemp seed occasionally, especially this time of year, it supposedly helps with fertility, and I give them apple slices every now and again.
