During breeding I offer egg food like the rest of the breeders here probably.

I usually put in a small container with egg food and pinkies in the evening. The pinkies are almost gone and the birds eat tem first. By the next day the remaining egg food is gone and very little seeds have been eaten.

Can one give too much egg food? How much egg food should i be feeding?

You shouldn't give too much egg food so that finches ignore the seed.

Obviously it depends on the species of finches you have. Mine - owls and picta - love egg food but always feed on seeds as well. They get a little bit of egg with greenies and the next day the half of it is still there. Even when they have to search for the grains while the egg food is visible.
