wildbird, if you have room for the dishes in your cage, you can feed each seed variety separately, a dish for each variety. You can buy separate seeds from Herman Brothers. http://www.hermanbros-seed.com/
I don't like mixes because of the waste. Birds get pretty good at slashing their beak through a mix, and taking the seeds they want. The rest is scattered.
It's interesting to see how their seed preferences change month to month.

Dave, Thank you for the website. I do have separate dishes for some seeds, but get a finch/canary mix for anything I might miss. I'll see what they have.
