Hillary, I am just curious how many birds you feed. 100 dollars a month seems so much for bird seeds.

About 300..... I go through a little over a 50 lb bag each month. With shipping, it's about $80 or so a bag.

Do you buy a bag at a time?
I have found I get a better deal by buying 500kgs at a time. Also by getting individual seeds you can make your own special mix.

HOLY SMOKES !!!

500Kg is alot of seed... unless an Aussie Kg is less than a SA Kg :)

How many birds do you have and how long would 500Kg last?

1000grams to a kilo.500kilograms equals half a ton.
I have over 200.I winnow the seed a couple of times after the birds eat it, then give it to the budgies.I dont take much notice how long it lasts.I buy seed about twice a year.It cost about $1.30 a kilo last time I brought it overall.About the same as a premixed bag would cost. But they put in what ever seed is the chepest here, not what the birds require.Quite often alot off hulled oats which most off my birds dont touch,Only the diamond firetails will eat a bit.
There are a few on this site which would buy that amount if not more each year.

hadn't thought of buying my seed in bulk. will have to look into it as I am using 1/4 to 1/2 a ton per year.
