Ok you people have 'enabled' me and I got 25 of those disgusting LIVE mini mealworms. Eww (where's the puking icon?!) They are in the fridge now after I added a tablesppon of oat flakes to their bag.
I guess I'll give the Strawberries a couple in the morning. Is 2 enough to start them with? Should I also give the Fire Finches 1 live one?
I picked up 2 glass dishes for .50 cents each (at the Dollar store) 4 inches wide and 2 inches high to place them in to give to the birds.
How long will these awful critters crawl around the fridge - I mean - stay alive in the fridge with the oatmeal flakes?
Thanks... I think.

oh Liz.... I am having a good laugh right now.
They will live for about two weeks without being fed. Take them out until they warm up enough to start wiggling around. Then feed them to the birds. I do not think two will be enough for the strawberries. I really don't know how many to feed a few birds. I usually give mine about 40 or so at a time for them all.
I am so proud of you!

Let us know how it goes.

Well they are in an enclosed container.

I do not keep mine in the frig in my house. I have a small frig out in my husband's shop.

But I would keep them in the house if I had to. I just don't have to.

Waiting to hear tomorrow how much your birds LOVED the worms.
Buy the way..... I am off. President's Day!

When you have mealworms in the refrigerator they get dormant they don't hardly move when you open the lid until they warm up. I leave a small plastic cup of worms set on counter the night before and give them a slice of apple to eat and a little bran

Heh heh, mini mealworms aren't so bad. They can't bite like superworms.

We keep supers around for our chameleons, but when I had Cricket the house sparrow we kept mealworms for him. I don't know if finches go about it the same way, but he would crunch their heads and squish all the tasty insides out, often leaving us with a limp mealworm skin on the floor (he was a free range sparrow :3)

Ray that's funny as. I can picture Liz right now disposing of mealworms, cleaning every nook and cranny in the fridge in case of any escapees and swearing and cussing everyone on here for encouraging her to get them in the first place.
Be careful Liz, sometimes the birds will pick one up and fly away only to drop it before they've killed it. You better make sure you count the empty skins each day
