Those damn weeds can be useful after all!

Post by subersibo » Mon Feb 16, 2009 4:50 pm

I've been trying to get rid of the weeds from my lawn and backyard and the sides of the house for some time. It's an ongoing battle and I'm losing but fortunately I've read that finches can be fed chickweed so I pulled some out the other day and my birds have been devouring them! Now I wish chickweed would continue to grow regularly. What other weeds can be fed to the birds? I've got some other weeds that I can not identify yet, they get pretty big.

Yes, they love chickweed. Also dandilions. I don't know about any others, but I have lots of things in my yard. Just afraid to feed anything else without confirmation that it is safe.

I've done the same (stopped putting stuff to kill the weeds). I have some chickweed (not much) and a few dandelions in my yard also. Haven't put any weed killers down for over a year now.

I'm wondering about Henbit (have a lot of that).

Would be very interested in what you find out..
