Has anyone tried to make up some homemade versions of "Beak Appetite - Veggie Heaven?"

My birds get this daily at "lunch time" and it may just be easier (and cost effective!!) to make up a homemade version. I don't have any cartons on hand to check the ingredients of the premade stuff.

I make up a batch, add in cooked brown rice, and divide into ice cube trays. Everyday at 11, I give them a thawed cube or two. The birds let me know they are ready for lunch! It is so funny to watch their antics..they love the stuff.

I know carrots, barley and brown rice are in it for sure. There are also some grains and other veggies. (Too small for me to identify. )

Any suggestions?

You can mince (via a food processor) some brocolli flowerettes to add as well.

And carrots, too, chopped very fine. Any veggies you can get them to eat are a plus.

Well this is what I made, which is based on numerous websites I found:

Food Processed:
Broccoli
Carrots
Hard Boiled Egg (with Shell)
Corn (a small handful)
Peas


Added:
brown rice
mini mini whole wheat pasta- the kind that look like small "dots."
Brown rice
wild rice
couscous
barley
1/2 cup of cream o'wheat (I buy the organic preservative free version- it's just a type of grain.) to help hold the mess together
pellets

The veggies make up half, the rest combined make up the other half... so there is are lots more veggies than anything else.

I divided it into paper cup cake wrappers and froze them. (About a 1/4 cup.) I defrost one for them daily- but skip the weekends to shake things up. My six birds DIVOUR it at lunch. They pick out the veggies first, then nibble down the rest. I remove it after an hour.

They also are given actual fresh food/egg food/ bug food daily.
