I've seen where many sites suggest *monkey biscuts*..non of the pet stores nor livestock stores in my area carry this..since I have no way of online ordering..is there a substitute I can use..will dogfood or catfood work..also it seems I'm the only person breeding birds around here as the petstores also dont have *nestling* food..so what I'm doing is tryin to make my own..like maybe using dogfood or dog biscuts or something..any info will be greatly apreciated..thank so much.
btw..my finches just love *cheese-its...lolol

The single best "home made" thing you can feed, in my opinion, is a boiled egg mashed fine-- shell and all.
You can also try offering a some high quality puppy kibble which has been soaked in water, especially if you add an avian vitamin/mineral supplement to it. The problem with adding supplements is that many of them are not regulated as they ought to be, and it may be difficult to ensure that your birds are getting the right amount of nutrients (not too many or too few). The egg is such a great food because it's already balanced by nature.
