Hi everyone, new here...I was wondering how finely chopped should the fruits/vegetables be for the finches? Can anyone suggest a place to get the right chopper?
Thanks in advance

When I chop my letuce, I chop it down to about the size of a seed, maybe a bit bigger, so they can get it in their mouth w/o choking. I have seen mine have trouble dealing with bigger pieces, especially once they get it out of the treat tray, cuz they have no place to "work" the piece and it fall to the bottom of the cage.

I picked up a small food chopper from Target for less than $10.

Thanks for the lead at Target for the chopper.
Using a knife is S_L_O_W work.

Some people just put a whole leaf of lettuce clipped to the side of the cage...... I chop mine since they are not in cages.

Parsley is listed at the FIC as a safe food. As with anything else, moderation is the key. My birds love it.

I grate my brocolli (just the flower parts) and carrots with the finest side of a box grater. After blotting dry the carrot shreds, then I use a chef's knife to more finely chop the carrots along with some English peas (popped out of their skins first). I found that if I left the carrot shreds whole, the owl finches would dip them in their water bowl, presumably to soften them up, before feeding them to their babies. They were making a mess of things! A quick rough chop fixed that problem.

I toss veggies in the food processor then mix with the eggfood for a dry crumbly mix.

Liz - do you add any corn meal or anything when you add broccoli etc. to the boiled egg?
I never did, but my biggest complaint when I did it this way was that it would just lump together into broccoli egg balls..
It wasn't until later I read you could add corn meal to dry it out and make it crumbly, but I haven't tried that yet..

I have only been shredding mine!

Guess I need to chop it finer. I have a 'Bullet', so should be easy. I get carrots and broccoli at the market and the produce guy runs it thru his shredder for me. I just add whatever else they're having that day: apple, spinach, dandelion, eggfood, etc.
