My pair of Owls have been sitting for 12 days...or close to it.
I have no idea how many eggs or if they are even fertile. Is this a species that require mealworms or just hardboiled egg? TIA.

Mine do fine with homemade eggfood, though I have given them mini mealworms as a treat, but they don't seem to have to have it. The fledglings quickly learned to eat eggfood and love it.

Thanks Sally. Don't mind using the mealworms, but just easier if I don't have to keep buying them.

When I put out mealworms for the other birds, my owls will pick at them and eat them a little while breeding, but don't seem to care much either way.

Not at all like the courdons that ravish them!

It does seem that a lot of the African finches raise their young on live foods versus the Australian species.

Well darn. I don't have to worry about it since the 3 eggs didn't hatch. I was able to candle the eggs without taking the wicker nest out of the cage and, I put some tape on the end of a chopstick and removed the eggs. Maybe the next clutch will be more successful.

I feel for you Jordan, me having 8 eggs and only 3 possibly viable.

I don't like to see tossed chicks, but it's the challenge of breeding finches that makes it exciting and rewarding when things happen the way it should.
