This is gonna be one of those "crazy" qestions......when feeding your birds maggots, how do you keep them in a dish? I have tried several and none work. I found some today YUCK and thought to try them. They love them, but I am afraid to put them into the aviary due to escaped.

I may have to stick with the mealworms.

Could you try to put in freezer for a minute or so just to slow them down. Never tried them on my birds good luck :)

with maggots keep them in a sealed container in the fridge, this slows down the growth rate much the same as mealworm.
when feeding maggots make sure that the gutline is clear (no black line on the maggot).
I put the maggots in a shallow stainless steel dish, but they dont last long enough to have a hope in hell of climbing out.

You do need to be carful with maggots. Many feed on decaying meat and can make birds sick. I have never been brave enough to try after reading an artical about cleaning the maggots by diet before feeding to the birds...
sounded like a lot of work and at a risk to the birds.... but I guess there are maggots that aren't meat eating and I think these might be fine :?:

i always feed frozen maggots , mix it with the soaked ( 24 hours ) seeds and adding a good eggfood and one drip vitamin abcde ....

the frozen maggots are clean and sold in a pound box ( about 10 usd ) and this is realy enough to feed a whole fire finch family from the egg till they fly out , and my birds realy love it even the societies .

as said before i wouldn't feed the birds life maggotsbecause you never know what there lunch was [-X

Donna dont give up feeding your birds maggots. next time you find a ready made supply like that just put some into some bran or pollard for a couple of days and they then should be cleaned out enough to feed to your birds without any worries

Well I only gave them a few, but they sure did love them.... wow..

I think my biggest concern is containing them. They are soooo tiny.

This topic reminds me of the Phoenix worms. They look just like maggots and the birds go crazy over them.

Anyone else use the Phoenix worms? My only problem is their price!

Where does one buy maggots for birds?
