Frequently people refer to what seeds they use in their mixes. I'm not sure which seeds are which. I took a small sampling of the seed I use (Birds R Us Premium Finch Mix and Ladygouldianfinch.com finch mix).
Birds R Us PFM is supposed to have
"Red Siberian Millet, White Foxtail Bristlegrass, Seeds from the Echinochloa genus (including Billion Dollar Grass, Japanese Millet, and Barnyard Grass), Canary Seed, French White Millet, Oat Groats, Switchgrass, Fescue Grass, Golden German Millet, Red Broomcorn Millet"

Can you identify which seeds are which?

Note: I've added a third picture with #13 and #14 which are the two types of seed in ladygouldianfinch.com tonic seed.

I think the canary seed is 10 . Not sure about the others... ,but I am anxious to hear what others say on this one.

9 is oatgroats, 2 and 3 are millets....

I think I know my seeds
1 canary grass
2 japanese millet

4 french millet
5 looks like Porso millet but you do not give this choice
6 broomcorn though it looks like buckwheat
7 billion dollar grass
8 foxtail bristle grass
9 oat groats
10 fescue grass
11 barnyard grass
12 switch grass
The true grasses are very hard to tell apart except for the fescue..... so I guessed.
I also feed thistle, hemp, rape, sunflower

I guessed 1, 2 and 3 the same as Candace - otherwise I haven't a clue.

Hmmm, I thought #6 was Japanese millet....it has an odd shape, brown and very light in weight. #4 looks like hulled #5...white Proso.

Yes, they would be the 13 niger and 14 rape seeds
13 could be thistle, they resemble each other, but the key was tonic seed....has to be niger

I agree, 4 is hulled porso millet....that is what we call it here but I believe some call it by the fancy name of french millet?
Kind of like we call them fried taters and some call them French Fries

I have mixed a many of seed. I now mix prepackaged seeds. my mix is ABBA finch mix(siberian,japanese,porso,mostly millet based), ABBA canary(canary grass, rape) ABBA song food (niger,rape,hemp,sunflower kernels) Higgins small fruit and vegies (small miilets, coconut,blueberries,apricots,apples,pineapple, dandelions,spinach,celery seed,sesame seeds, and tons more)
Roundy Bush Nibles, Zupreem fruit pellets , Goldenfeast Autralian Blend (chamomile flowers, 36 other herbs from austrailia) great stuff)

That is my basis seed diet...... then there is the insect mixes
Feast Insectivorous diet, Orlus insect Patee, Bag O' Bugs, Golden West insect Mix
Egg food diet.... Miracle meal, ABBA nestling food w/seed, Feast egg food gold lable, and my own fresh boiled eggs

And I grow carrots and feed the organic carrot tops year round. Ocaisional veggies and fruit...mostly to the goldbreast, grasskeets, parrot finches.
I also give other seeds,nuts, fruits, corn, etc for the grasskeets
I saw the different advantages of different companies products and so I just mix them together and get the best of all. I keep in a large upright freezer and order about 4 times a year.

Sometimes I still order 50 lb bags of porso, whole and hulled and siberian millet for the zebra finches and any bird oputside in winter that could use some fat on thier bodies:D

I would say that #6 is jap millet, #13 is niger and #14 is rape.
other than that I wont create any confusion with aussie names for the seeds lol

This is an interesting link Dianna and always wondered what seeds were what in the Fidler mixes. I pretty much know all my other seeds.

I do use the Fidler White mix for my "chitted" seeds and the birds love them.

I'm still mixing my own seed mix thru Hermans and the birds seem to devour each one.
