Just curious if anyone else feeds chia seeds to their finches? We've found that our Fire's don't particularly like Canary seed or Nyger (always the last seed eaten by them in the mix).

Considering the superfood nutritional profile of Chia (high in Omega3 Fatty Acids, Anti-oxidants and Calcium) thought I'd give it a shot.

Went to a local Bulk Barn and bought a bit of it. Cost about $.25 for about 3 finger dish fulls.
Man oh man do they love this seed! Every day, the finger dish is empty by the morning! Been feeding for about 2 weeks and hard to say but it already seems like their feathers have a deeper color to them and also an improvement in their feather sheen.

Curious to hear any stories from anyone else feeding chia to their finches. If no one has, anyone else willing to experiment with it and see if their finches love it as well. Only thing though, it isn't cheap by the lb-kg! However, adding it as a treat shouldn't cost much. I just make sure that I don't replace the chia until they have finished eating the rest of normal daily amount of LadyGouldian African mix and daily millet spray.
Next test: Field Grass seeds.
Also looking at potentially starting feed some hemp and organic quinoa. If anyone has experience with these, I'm curious to know how it worked out for you.
