I was recently advised to buy avigold to add to my birds drinking water, so i've ordered that, but i've got another problem, as I heard I shouldn't let them have plain tap water. When I rinse out their food/water bowls, do I just rinse it in plain water or should I be using something cleaner? I'm not sure which product to use, i've been wondering if I should use something like avisafe disinfectant. Any recommendations?
I want to soak seed for my gouldians too, do I soak it in normal tap water or can I soak it in water mixed with avigold?

Where are you located? I use Sparkle in my tap water, but I have now began boiling all their water so I don't use anything.finchbob wrote:I was recently advised to buy avigold to add to my birds drinking water, so i've ordered that, but i've got another problem, as I heard I shouldn't let them have plain tap water. We have a separate faucet hooked up to a dual stage carbon filter. (bottle water is the same stuff). I ran the water question by my certified avian vet and she said that is fine for birds and dogs. I have been using it for years with no problem.
I use a solution of bleach and water to clean bowls and cups, rinse well and air dry overnight. I was told by one breeder to use a product that they use in the vet offices for cleaning (can't remember the name off hand) and my vet discouraged it saying it can give you a false sense of killing germs and bacterial. Bleach and water is what she recommended recommended.

Re: Avigold, AviClens etc - what to use for cleaning the feeders
I have lots of cages, so I try to have two sets of everything. I take out the dirty water tubes, dishes, etc. and they go in the dishwasher, then I have clean stuff ready to use while those are washing.
The days that the birds get plain water, I just use water from my tap. Some days they get calcium added, some days they get apple cider vinegar added.
When sprouting seeds, I think it is good to use some sort of water cleanser. I'm not familiar with avigold, is it a water cleanser?

Dishwasher and plain tap water. I gave up on bottled water when my cages passed the 10 mark!

I have a Britta water filter pitcher in the kitchen.
I fill a 2 qt milk jug with that water and use that water for both their drinking and bath water.
I add 1 drop of Apple Cider Vinegar per 1 oz of water. This seems to slow down the rate that the water tubes and bath gets slimmy.
