Must you always soak eggfood or is it only if there is young to feed? Just wondering if the parents can eat it unsoaked otherwise.

I have never soaked or moistened dry commercial eggfood. I use it to mix in with my hardboiled eggs (after I run them through a food processor for 3 seconds). It helps to dry out of the hb eggs and the birds LOVE it

I agree with liz but do your birds eat it soaked

I never soaked mine but they sure don't eat much for me.

I moved this from "Breeding" to "Diet & Nutrition" as I feel it's more applicable.

My finches eat it dried mixed with ground Roudybush or Lafeber's pellets for finches. They don't like it soaked.

I have tried mixing nestling food with water, since that was what it said on the directions, and didn't like the end product--neither did the birds. On dried commercial eggfood, if I'm feeding it alone and not mixed into fresh hardboiled eggs, I just put out a dish of dry food. That way, I don't have to worry about it going sour.

We use the Cede Egg Snack and our guys go through a good bit of it. Some cages more than others. When they're feeding babies, we have to increase the amount.
We do have one cage where I have seen the males go over and get a beakfull of the egg food and then fly over and to the water dish to get it good and soaked. Only ever noticed this behavior in just that one cage. Guess they're making it easier for the babies to break down,

if you mix a little bit grated carrot with eggfood will be better for your finch...
