Wheat Germ

Tiffany recommended adding wheat germ oil to my egg food, I am going to get some. But I was wondering if anyone ever gave their finch wheat germ (like the kind you put on cereals or make muffins out of)?
I used to include it in the handmade formulas when feeding out lovebirds and my Gray. It has a lot of good vitamins in it, thought it might be something to grind up and give in dry egg food or sprinkle on veggies.

I do! I put it in my birdie bread because the recipe calls for it.

I just give Wheat Germ Oil to the eggfood mixture (1 teaspoon per 4 eggs) along with Cod Liver Oil.

I also add wheat germ oil to my egg food, my bottle comes from the petstore manufactured by eight in one pet products, but if I could give them the store bought kind, I am sure to save some $$$$$

I looked for the wheat germ oil in Wal Mart and Publix (grocery). they had only cod liver oil which is great for vitamin D. I got regular wheat germ to give to them mixed into their egg food.
I am going to look for the one in the pet store or go to my health food dtore to get the oil.
Thanks for the recipe Patti.

Bill, you live up around where I do...I will have to go into the health food store and ask for the brand you mentioned. If they don't carry it they might be able to order it for me. Thank you.

You can find wheat germ oil at any feed store. I buy my cod liver oil at Walgreens - it is cherry flavored. I mix the wheat germ oil and the cod liver oil with seed and sprinkle some Breeder's Blend in with it. Let it set overnight in the fridge and feed it for a couple of days each week.
They LOVE it!!!! Very good for them also.

When you mix either or both of the oils together how long can you keep it out.
I thought I would try mixed in a mashed egg with ground carrots and greens. Or give it mixed with a tablesppon of seed and herbs.
Breeders Blend, can I ask who makes it and did you order it? I have ASSA 92 eggfood with greens with ground Roudybush, do you think it might spoil the Roudybush?
Can you use the capsules of cod liver oil, pierce the end with a pin or knick it with a knife and squeeze the contents out into the mixture? What about fish oil Omega 3 capsules?

I put a hole in the capsules and squeeze the oil out.I don't need too much so if you have a large amount of birds out of a bottle would work better i guess.

I also used the CLO capsules at first and punctured a hole in one end and then squeezed out the liquid. Most of the time I ended up with some on my fingers - what a STINK! Much easier and cleaner to use a bottle of the stuff!

Well this morning I got some cod liver capsules and used 2 in a batch of boiled egg, parsley, couscous and carrots finely ground. Both pairs of owls loved it, so did the St. Helena. Last night the Helenas plowed through a dish of parsley and romaine finishing almost everything.
The Orange cheek and Gold Breast looked at the egg mixture like it was from another planet. all the birds like the dried ABBA92 egg food w/greens mixed with ground roudybush and wheat germ grandulars. They all are in the cups of it all throughout the day.
The Helenas may have eggs, the front of the nest has like a funnel entrance that they built, it prevents me from seeing in.
