I don't have cheesecloth or a sieve. What else could I use to rinse soaked seed?

How do you drain pasta or other food items?

old sleeve from a t-shirt .... handtowl .... etc ,,, you will find something , although driving to a shopping center is faster and more fun and buy a sieve

I had a nice, very fine mesh strainer, but it finally wore out, and I find many of the strainers on the market today have such a large mesh that the tiny seeds in my soak mixture would fall right thru. Then I found a set at Wal-mart, it is 3 strainers shaped like bowls (no handle), and the mesh is fine enough to contain just about all the seed. It was $11+ and in the kitchen tools section. I pour the soak seed mixture in the strainer, rinse with water, then set it on drainboard tilted up so it drains well.

I got a small strainer at the local grocery store, and I've seen similar strainers at the local Longs drug store (or whatever the new name is). You can also use a clean old stocking.

Great tips! I have a strainer/seive I got at Canadian Tire with very fine mesh - nothing but water goes through. I need a new one though.

You can get an inexpensive strainer usually from any grocery store, wal-mart, target, etc.

Your permanet mesh coffee filters or the paper ones will work also.

I have a salad spinner. If I place the millet in that but do not spin as hard, wonder if that would work to drain the water off.

Here's another idea. It's what I use.

Get two identical plastic Tupperware style pans to suit the amount you sprout. Mine are 12" L x 8" W x 4" D. Drill a gazillion little holes in one on the bottom and about 1" up the sides all the way around. Instant sieve!

Put it inside the one without the holes to soak your seed, then pull it out and set it on the drain board with an upside down spoon underneath one end to drain and dry your seed while you wait for it to chit.

A great idea one customer offered: She used a "corn cob" holder with the little sharp prongs to poke the holes in hers!
