Eggshell

Hi!
I have a recipe for eggfood that says that after boiling the eggs, you separate the eggshell and put it in the microwave for 5 minutes, crush it, and at last add it to the eggmix.
Last time I did this I was wondering, I use a lot of eggs in my kitchen, can I separate all the eggshells, put them in the microwave (or should I boil them first?), and crush them, and offer that to my birds in a separate container (something similar to the "Hatched eggshell calcium" of Twin Beaks Aviary). Do you do this?
Remember I am mexican, sorry for my English.
