Ummm...soaked hemp seed SPROUTED!

Post by Animal Quackers » Fri Nov 13, 2009 12:12 pm

Ummm...yeah! I'm scared over here!

I was soaking the hemp seed because the finches seem to have a hard time breaking their tough shell, and when I rinsed this morning, I saw sprouts! I called my husband at work, and he freaked out and said, "THROW THEM OUT! ARE YOU CRAZY? Do you want to get arrested? You are an RN - they will take your license away!"

OK - he is right on all of the above, but the fids LOVE soaked seed!

Do you think this is safe to feed - and how the heck does sterilized seed sprout? :?: :?: :?:

Soak the seeds in water for 8hrs then drain and give them to the birds.
The birds will eat them before they germinate.

When I have had seeds germinate, that was when I drained the water and let the wet seeds sit for 24+ hrs.

You have nothing to worry about, the hemp seed is not against the law to have and is perfectly legal, tom.

Thank you everyone for your kind esponses...

But Tom, it has SPROUTED!

I did give some to the finches, canaries, doves, and parrots yesterday, and everyone seemed to like them sprouted. I suppose I will have to get up the courage to soak and sprout them again though!

Hemp does not = cannabis sativa

It is not illegal..
You would have to smoke a telephone pole sized joint of hemp in order to get even the slightest bit dizzy - so I don't think anyone is going to come after you considering it is for the birds :\

It should be sterile so people can not grow it.
Because it looks like the real stuff. And most cops can't tell the difference...and they really don't care to tell the difference. They probably figure anyone growing this stuff that looks like the illegal substance and trying to say it is for their birds.... Well I would imagine the cop would think you were under the whacky influence already with an excuse like that
Hemp is used for rope making. The seed should have beed sterilized to keep from propagation. Even though you can't get 'high from smokin' the weed' you could still sell it as bootleg weed to unsuspecting customers. A highly illegal proposition. So even if the THC content low in this plant I would assume you could still get busted for manufacturing.....
Maybe sprout and feed quick... don't plant and leave unattended for a season. It grows like a weed

From what I have read, the US imports a lot of hemp for clothing, soaps, rope, etc...even for filler in headrests for cars. There are only a handful of states that allow it to be grown but you need permits for it.

Lol, I wouldn't worry about it even if it was cannabis sativa. How would the cops ever know thats what you had sprouting in the privacy of your home? Maybe your being paranoid. As long as your not advertising to your neighbors or forum members, smoking out in public, selling cannabis all over town or venting out a grow room, no one will ever know what you have in your home. Funny post but hemp is not the same as cannabis sativa and not illegal. Also, depending on where you live for example Canada, cops don't even care what your growing. They don't enforce cannabis laws there nor do they care if you grow. A certain amount of plants in your house is perfectly fine to have in Canada. Lol, funny post!!!!!!
