I know this is a repeat subject, but I couldnt find it again. How much Oyster shell is a good amount to give to 2 Zebras and 2 Socities. I think the Zebras are working on a family.
thanks

I just keep a small treat cup in the cage containing oyster shell & chicken egg shell and let them eat as much or as little as they want. Refill as needed.

That's what I do, too. Seems like sometimes they will go days without touching it, and sometimes they eat a bunch more of it. I figure they know what they need. It's never really all that much that they eat, and it's not expensive stuff, either.

Thanks alot, I put some over their food yesterday and they seemed to go nuts over it. I try to keep some in there all the time now and let them eat what they want.

Where do you find the oyster shell? I haven't been able to locate a source.
I do use egg shell and crushed cuttle bone.

I just get it at the local PetsMart.

Any petshop that sells bird supplies should carry it really. I got mine at Petco.

Crushed cuttle bone? They wont use it the way it is as you buy it in the store? I just put in on the bottom of the avairy. Should I hang it on the side somewhere?

I've heard about crushing the cuttlebone - my birds seem to like theirs just as it is, hanging on the side of the cage. Everybody gnaws on it now and then in there.

My society and orange-cheek waxbill pick at the one on the side of cage,
but the breeding star finches didn't, so I crushed it and put it in a dish and she consumes a lot of it now.
