Can you tell if this is mealworm or not? I have no idea, because I never see the real mealworm, just photos of it on google, but this is the kind of worm they sell in bird stores for insect-eater birds, each worm is about 5-10mm long.

Only my owl finches ate them that was until my shaftails had chicks. I offered the Shaftails mealworms and they ate them so fast and so many. Prior to this they would not go near them.

Yes, those are mealworms but if you could possibly find the MINI ones they eat them better. All my will devour them. Even the gouldians eat them, but they haven't had any for a long time.

I had to stop offering them for a while as they were breaking the bank. They would eat hundreds a day. And don't anyone even SUGGEST my growing my own. Be there.... done that.....

I just start to search our forum for how to make them know that those worms are eatable :D, honestly, I never seen any bird breeder in VN feed their finch with these :P
All I need is they eat that, dont care much about breaking the bank, hoho, with 1$ I can buy 500gr of mealworms :D

they sure are mealworm. the best size for your birds is when the worms are about 1/2" long. a lot of birds will only eat the worms when they have young in a nest.

Donna, I just threw out my beetles yesterday. (I hope the birds in the yard enjoyed them. :-)) The breeding takes too long, my finches just eat too many that I could ever stop buying them. And my colony was infested with grain mites again, which I do NOT want in my kitchen!

But I know what you mean. Mine would eat hundreds too if they got them. So I limit them to about 20 or so a day, on a first come first serve base. Whoever gets them in the morning is the lucky one... ;-) (I would only increase that when the waxbills would be breeding.)

They might be too big. Or, your birds just don't like them. My gouldians don't eat any mealworms either, only the waxbills do...

Wwhat I did with my shaftails was give them mealies in the morning, lunch and after dinner. I put like 20 out in a dish each time and as the chicks got older cut out a feeding until right near the end i took the mealworms away completely. It is expensive to say the least. When I first joined the forum I did a price listing for companies.

This is what I came up with then:

I have been checking around for prices
this is what I found. some only carry medium others carry a all sizes
