Fruits for Finches

I have tried to get my new societies to eat a bit of variety. They get the seed mix everyday, but I have tried to give them apples and bananas, neither they even try. They have millet for a snack in there. Is there a way to get them to eat fruits? I have read that it is good to give them things like that but not sure if there is a preference...

I also feed only greens and veggies and no fruit.

The only birds that I have that like fruit are the parrotlets, they get apple instead of veggies on some days. My fiches and budgies won't eat any fruit, and I tried all sorts of different types.

Make sure you give them leafy greens, grated carrots, broccoli etc. and they will get all the vitamins they need.

Try this romaine, green apple (without the skin), carrots peeled, chopped in a food processor with just a tiny bit wheat germ oil. Some of my birds love this...others will not eat it with or without the wheat germ oil.

Cindy was right. If you want finches to eat fruits, you'd better chop them into tiny pieces. Most of my finches love carrot and apple mixed with crushed-boiled-eggs.
But Im not sure about banana, never even think about it.

Mine love oranges. But that is because they have other birds with them that eat oranges and they have learned to eat from them.
Gouldians are just picky little things huh??

I wouldn't worry too much about fruit but would make sure your finches eat veggies. Like many other people said they need to be chopped in very small pieces and persevere, eventually they will eat it.

I say fruit are not that important beacause they are mainly water and sugar. Veggies contain less sugar and more vitamins.

You can also try sprouting seeds, that would be an easy introduction to green foods and even Gouldians would try those.

My finches are quite the opposite. They love fruit and initially only picked at veg. They bite off chunks of apple, pear, strawberry, banana mango (whatever is going) and spear orange cells popping them for the sugary sweetness inside.
They now eat most things, I still get days when one thing will not be touched. They did not feel like it that day I suppose. It does help if you have one or two brave birds willing to lead the flock to new experiences however what has worked for me is introducing new food in small quantities mixed initially into something they do like. So I added little pieces of fruit/veg to their egg food/soaked seed and now I can place them on their own and the finches choose what they want. Just watch for mixing fruit etc with their food that it does not stay in longer than a day or it can make things go sour.
Just keep offering fresh things and once they figure out they can eat it there is no looking back.
