Has anyone tried this?

I am thinking of mixing it into my dry eggfood mix, especially for the finches with young. Mealworms are great for only a few select pairs of my bird, thr Red headed finches like to drop them and I usually find them in the tray alive and whole. The shaftails, owls and zebras love them and they are gone in seconds. The RCCBs and GB don't eat them at all.

With the Vetafarm Insecta-Pro it would eliminate my having to "care" for mealies!

Ingredients:
Insecta-Pro contains fish meal, dehydrated meat, lupin, oat groats, wheat gluten, maize, isolated soy protein, lucerne leaf meal, sunflower oil, Calcium Carbonate, dicalcium phosphate, Vitamins A, D3, E, K, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Riboflavin, Thiamine, Cyanocobalamin, Folic Acid, Choline Bitartrate, Biotin, and Iodine

Meat :D I have been feeding ABBA for years and they have meat, poultry and fish in thier diets  I love my meateating birds. Check out thier advertizing picture with the steak and whole fish, chicken, eggs laying on the seed
http://www.abbaseed.com/Seed_Products/s ... ducts.html

I also have gotten all my birds off live insects and onto dried or boiled eggs. Simply replacing one type protein for another.
Though I think it is really wrong to advertize as an insect product when thier are none [-X Of course most people buy from the name...not all read the ingredients.

Perhaps the Dehydrated Meat = dehydrated insects? That's how I would understand it but am not 100% sure without contacting the manufacturer.

Yes - but what kind of meat and from what kinds of animals.
Just cause they show a photo of a fish and a salmon steak doesn't mean that's actually what's going into the food.

Dog food has meat in it, too, but what many people probably aren't aware of is that dog/cat food containing "bone meal" is quite often other ground up dogs and cats from kill shelters. But of course the manufacturers of those foods aren't going to openly advertise whats in this "bone meal" they're using. Purina's defense was that they "didn't know."

I have no problem feeding my birds products that contain meat - after all, the Mike Fidler soft food contains beef meal, but I prefer to know exactly what they are eating and where it's coming from. :?

I thought the picture was funny. Just a little humor there.

Ingredients list is just fish meal, meat meal, and bone meal....
It is hard to say what is exactly contained in meat meal, bone meal, fishmeal etc. Only an inspectors of the processing plants really know
I do know my birds have always thrived on it though and that's good enough for me :D

Candace how do you serve it to your finches? Do you mix it in with dry foods, moisten it? I would like to add it to the dried egg food.

Bird Supply NH has Avicp Bugs-n-Berries, I thought about trying this...I am trying to add protein to the dry egg food mix. Meal worms are only eaten by a few of my finches so I need to feed one food that they will eat.

Cindy,
I was talking about the meat meal, fish meal and bone meal that is in the ABBA seed diet that I feed.

I did buy a bag of this at the Orlando show from the breeder that I bought the 3 blue gouldians from. They swore by it. I have mixed it with the other dried bug mixtures and fed in a seperate dish to the red throat parrot finches (my bug eaters) I have not mixed it with the eggfood and fed to the gouldians yet but this is what the breeders whom sold it recommended. They have just recently been paired up with hens and I have started the eggfood...just haven't added any of this yet............... don't know if I will. Every one does well with just the boiled egg and commercial egg mixture.
