Canaries are finches. ;)
They sell canary seed. I buy both canary mix and finch mix and fill two hoppers with canary and two with finch mix. I have finches eating out of the canary hoppers and canaries eating out of the finch hoppers. You could even combine the two seed mixtures or just feed a finch mix.
They basically eat the same thing.

I know that they are finches, just learned that the other day. I'm asking 'cause another site (Myrna?) doesn't think you should keep finches and canaries together because of the food + I see the special canary see and food online and in the pet shops. Curious.

...I've done quite a bit of researching...dunno what's right...but the consensus is to keep them separate...
...again, mainly because of the food...canary beaks are softer, so they require a different base diet of seed...
...but I couldn't find anything concrete on short vs. long term effects of diet or anything else much.
I'm hoping to integrate my new canary with the finches after quarantine is over as well.

Hi,
The folks here are keeping their canaries together with their finches (great pictures, I don't remember which topic) so I'm not worried about mixing them. I want to make sure that I feed everybody what they really need, so I was wondering if I needed to supply canary food along with the regular finch fare. I quess you can put the canary food in a seperate cup or hopper and some of the other finches might snack on it too?

That's what I've been doing for several years. I know Kenny keeps canaries with his other finches as well.
You can provide both types of seed mixes and let the birds sort it all out.
