Big poop?

Post by lstyles » Thu Apr 14, 2011 12:55 pm

My zebra finch has three hatchlings now and I have noticed that her poop is quite large! This happened with her first set of chicks too. The poop is well formed mostly white with a little grey green at end. She seems otherwise well but these poops are definitely much bigger than usual. Any idea what could be causing this?
thanks,
Lori

My Society did the same thing when sitting on eggs. I contributed it to having to 'hold it' for hours before she would get off the nest to eat, drink and poo.

These are what Liz calls `preggy poops` :D
Completely normal as she is spending most of her time with her babies rather than being out and about, more at once.

Wow! Two responses in 4 minutes! I am impressed. Thanks for the re-assurance...I had never read anything about something like this but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Hold it! Hold everything! Yes I do call them 'preggy poops' as the poor hens have to Hold It and sit for much longer periods of time before they can get off the eggs and go relieve themselves.

Perfectly normal size and colouring. =D>

My RCCB female does the same thing when nesting. Ridiculous size of poop for a bird that small... however, if you're sitting all day, everyday I guess that's what happens
