Thank you so much, everyone! Definitely being home has helped her. She hears all the other birds and they all chirp at each other. Yesterday I didn't even see her turning in circles on the perch. Pretty cool. Right now I'm rolling her into another room in the early evening hours so she can sleep in peace and quiet (she doesn't like the separation much, though).

You're right, Ken. I love this little bird so much, I would do just about anything to make her well!

I hope other people can have success with their birds with this disease. I'd say if one thing doesn't work with a particular bird, keep trying with something else! All of the worry was definitely worth it for this result.

I think she is. She's the only vet in the state of New Mexico that is authorized to treat wild wounded bear. She treats everything from bear, to deer, to eagles, to bats, along with your regular domesticated dogs, birds, cats. Apparently she really loves birds.

Wow I just read through this whole thread and it is fantastic to hear of someone caring so much about a little zebbie, they are great little birds! Great job on doing everything u can to help her out and loving her so much and what a great vet! Very inspiring story, I'm so glad to hear she's doing better! and honestly for all the vet did $79 is extremely resonable, wow. Hope that Lucy keeps improving!
Loving owner to Juniper the Aussie/Heeler mix, 8 zebra finches, one pair of red-cheeked cordon blues and one pair of red-billed firefinches.

Thanks! Lucy inspired me a lot, too. To think that a bird so little, and one that appears so much more fragile than others, had such a fight in her and a will to live. Who knew? The vet was pretty amazed at her too, I think, and totally brushed off how much she had done for her. What vet does this much for a zebbie? Lucy and I were very fortunate to find her.
Lucy has improved basically to normal. Today she is back with her mate Pedro (they did appear to want to be together) and laying eggs (which I promptly remove). Her head is straight, she can eat and fly normally, and she seems really happy. I've seen her fall once or twice, mainly after a bath when her feathers are drenched, so I have continued to keep the grate out and change the paper daily just in case. I can't tell you what a relief it has been that she has survived and become healthy again.
