Help, gouldian seizure...what to do

Post by ibon_337 » Sun Aug 21, 2011 12:10 pm

For the past few days one of my juvenile goulds have been having seizure mostly in the mornings. This begun before the chick was weaned, after two or three episodes it stopped but since three days ago it started again. Currently I am giving him liquid calcium with vit d just in case it is calcium deficiency. But aside from this what else should I do? I know that if it is the brain then it'll be for life or if it is the liver then it's life is very short. I can't stand seeing it having the episode. If I must euthanized the chick, I am ready to do it rather seeing it having the episodes very often.

Please advice.
Rogie

Rogie, I don't have any advice to offer, I'm sorry. But I wanted to offer support, as it is a very difficult situation you are in. Very sorry you have to be going through this.
I hope someone can offer you some positive advice. Good luck.

This article (mostly to do with larger birds but I imagine the theory is the same) mentions not only calcium but D3.

I would try some of the suggestion in the articles before considering ending his life...it just might be he is unable to process certain nutrional needs and may need additional support. You may want to try the combination calcium and D3 to see if that help either stop them or lengthens the time inbetween when he has them.

Started the calcium with D3 supplement. If after a month or so and the bird doesnt get any good then will try other avenues. Will keep an eye on him/her.

Thanks for the support.
